Overview

A thirty-key wellness retreat on sixty acres outside Brevard: wood-fired sauna, creek-fed cold plunge, and a calendar of visiting-teacher retreats. A self-initiated concept, built to show how a retreat sells its programme, not just its rooms. This case study is still being updated.

01

The brief

Slate Hollow earns most of its margin from retreats, not room nights. An empty room costs one night of rate; an under-enrolled retreat cancels, refunds, and strains a facilitator relationship that took years to build. Yet the programme was the hardest thing to find or book.

The brief: an identity that feels like the Blue Ridge in the off-season, not a Bali spa, and a system that treats retreats as a first-class product. The mark had to be simple enough to survive a branding iron on cedar.

02

The approach

We started from the place: fog, steam, wet stone, low winter light. The palette is hemlock green, bone and a single ember accent taken from the sauna fire. A calm classical wordmark leads, with a quiet S monogram for the small moments: door hangers, amenities, the burned mark on the sauna door.

On the site, retreats come first. The homepage opens on the season's programme, and each retreat has a date, a price and the number of places left. The same programme card repeats across the website, email and a printed card in each room, so a guest meets one retreat three times.

03

The outcome

A working identity system across print, signage, amenities and a programme-led website. At 30 keys and a $250 average rate, the engagement pays for itself with 2.7 points of occupancy; the programme calendar is designed to move that number in the shoulder season, when rooms are empty and teachers are free.

Slate Hollow is a concept project. We're still adding to this page: the facilitator kit, booking flow and seasonal programme cards are on the way.
